Current Life

I am an electrical engineer at Square D by Schneider Electric in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I taught myself basic Linux system administration, how to build websites, implement webapps. I continue to learn more every day. It's been a lot of fun exploring and experimenting with the world of FOSS. i use Arch btw

Previous Life

From December 2020 to October 2021, I was a test technician at Collins Aerospace in Iowa. I tested and troubleshot products from the GLU product line which implements the ILS on passenger aircraft. It's a really neat piece of tech that combines operating principles from the early 20th century with 21st century microelectronics and space infrastructure.

Education

In 2020 I earned my BSE in Electrical Engineering from the University of Iowa. It took me longer to finish my degree than I would've liked, but I'm proud of the achievement.

During my time in the program, I found a particular aptitude for embedded systems and computer architecture design. I did study a fair bit of optoelectronic systems and optical signal processing, but I don't think I absorbed those topics as readily as many of my classmates did.

Personal Life

I live with my fiancée and our dog Lucy. Together we like to cook, go to hockey games, host dinner parties with friends, and watch terrible reality TV shows and medical dramas. Of course, we always cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes.

My Roots

I was born and raised in Bloomington, Illinois by my parents Frank and Patti. I have a younger sister who loves to perform in and enjoy live theatre productions.

Throughout my childhood I tried my hand in a number of sports including tennis, gymnastics, and soccer, but I had a particular soft spot for baseball. There's just something about making solid contact with that ball that no other sport has been able to reproduce for me.

In high school I was heavily involved with live performance arts including drama club, marching band, and speech team. I would like to perform again someday, but I haven't quite found the time to get back on a stage.
